Data source
Crash records are derived from the California Highway Patrol's California Crash Reporting System (CCRS), published through California Open Data. This independent website is not affiliated with or endorsed by CHP or the State of California.

CCRS reports may be preliminary, revised, deleted, or submitted after the crash date. The application uses the latest available report version and excludes records marked deleted. Totals can change after CHP updates the source records.
Derived locations and labels
ZIP codes and some city labels are assigned from coordinates. When source coordinates are unavailable, the application may estimate a display location from officer-recorded road names using OpenStreetMap. Estimated locations are not official crash coordinates. Road-pair totals do not prove every crash occurred inside one physical intersection.
How to interpret the data
Fault, citations, and collision factors reflect the reporting record. They are not court findings, convictions, or independent legal determinations. Crash counts are not automatically adjusted for population, traffic volume, or miles driven. This service provides historical information, not live traffic, emergency, legal, insurance, or safety advice.
Analytics and privacy
When analytics is enabled, the public site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand page views, interaction events, approximate location, and browser or device information. Google Analytics uses first-party cookies and receives information including the page URL and IP address; Google may use the IP address to derive a general location. Interaction events can include opening the map, selecting a time window, comparing vehicles, or using the share button.
Analytics events do not intentionally include raw collision IDs, exact user locations, free-form search text, names, email addresses, phone numbers, or other direct identifiers. Advertising storage, Google Signals, ad personalization, User-ID, and user-provided data collection are disabled. Analytics is used to maintain and improve this public service, not to build advertising audiences. The site does not sell personal data.
Embedded maps do not load Google Analytics or set analytics cookies. To operate the public embed service, an embed may send only the hostname of the page containing the iframe with its map-data request. The hostname is used for aggregate adoption monitoring, rate-limit investigation, and abuse response. It is not combined with crash-record details to profile readers.

Map attribution
Base maps and derived street references use OpenStreetMap and CARTO. Map data is credited to OpenStreetMap contributors.

When you use the contact form, the site collects the name, email address, organization if provided, industry, message, and source page that you submit. This information is used to review and respond to your inquiry. It is delivered to contact@meruai.co through Cloudflare Email Service and is not added to an advertising audience or sold.
Spam-prevention checks may process basic request information such as IP address, browser signals, and submission timing. Do not submit sensitive medical, legal, financial, collision-party, or case information through this general inquiry form.
