- ZIP association comes from the project’s normalized crash mart. The road-pair grouping standardizes direction markers and common street-type abbreviations before combining equivalent Crenshaw Boulevard and I-405 labels.
- The 64-record grouping contains 63 plotted positions. Records can share coordinates, so dots and records are not always one-to-one.
- All 316 ZIP records are mappable: 309 use source coordinates and 7 use street-inferred locations derived from recorded road context.
Limitations
- Counts are not adjusted for traffic volume, population, vehicle miles traveled, interchange usage, or time spent on the road.
- A repeated road pair does not establish roadway design causation, legal fault, or future crash probability.
- Road-name normalization can combine directional or ramp labels that describe a shared freeway context rather than one physical intersection.
